The Guancha portal (PRC) published a commentary by Vladimir Nezhdanov, expert of the ICIS of the Diplomatic Academy, on the visits of Chinese Special Representative Li Hui to Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany and Russia

V. Nezhdanov states: The program of the visit of the special representative of the Chinese government for Eurasian affairs indicates that China is trying to recreate the Normandy Mediation Mechanism on the Ukrainian crisis.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that Ambassador Li Hui, the Chinese government's special representative for Eurasian affairs, will visit five countries, including Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany and Russia, in an attempt to reach political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, to bring the position of Beijing to all parties.

V.Nezhdanov added: "Li Hui's visit combines not only the experience of Chinese mediation that we have seen in the Middle East, but also an attempt to restore the once-existing model of Ukrainian dispute resolution. This trip covers five countries: Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany and Poland. The visits to Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany are, in fact, an attempt to revive the Normandy model. Poland's participation shows its increased military and political power in the EU. China is acting as a third party."

V.Nezhdanov: "Li Hui's visit coincides with the May 19-20 G7 summit, so China has the opportunity to engage with the entire G7 to offer its mediation agenda to countries supporting Ukraine."

V.Nezhdanov concluded: "China understands that the US is using the conflict in Eastern Europe to strengthen its alliances in Europe and Asia that increases Washington's ability to compete with Beijing. In this regard, China has its own interest in resolving or at least freezing this conflict."

On February 24 China released the document "China's Position on the Political Solution to the Ukrainian Crisis". The document comprehensively and systematically outlines China's position, covering 12 principles, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, abandoning the Cold War mentality, ceasefire, start peace talks, and end unilateral sanctions. The sense is to promote peace and negotiations. Based on this, China expressed its readiness to continue working with the international community to contribute to the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a telephone conversation with V. Zelensky on April 26, said that China would send a special representative of the Chinese government for Eurasian affairs to Ukraine and other countries to conduct in-depth communication with all parties on a political settlement in Ukraine. From 2009 to 2019, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs, Li Hui, was the Chinese Ambassador to Russia.
